Description

Sexual abuse and misconduct (SAM) in healthcare rarely stems from a single failure. More often, incidents expose underlying gaps in organizational oversight, professional boundaries, reporting pathways, accountability, and culture. Many healthcare organizations already have policies in place, yet incidents continue to occur because prevention systems break down during day-to-day operations.

Drawing on Praesidium's work with healthcare organizations across the country, including organizational assessments, event reviews, investigations, and prevention initiatives, this session will examine the recurring patterns and vulnerabilities that contribute to sexual abuse and misconduct risk.

Using deidentified examples from real-world engagements, the speakers will explore how organizations can identify vulnerabilities earlier, strengthen oversight and reporting structures, reinforce professional boundaries, and build greater accountability across all levels of the organization. Takeaways will include practical, sustainable strategies that healthcare organizations can implement to better protect patients, support staff, and reduce organizational exposure.
