Larry L. Smith to Receive MPL Association Lifetime Achievement Award

(Rockville, MD, May 1, 2026)—The Medical Professional Liability Association (MPL Association) today announced that Larry L. Smith, Vice President, Risk Management Services, MedStar Health; President, Greenspring Financial Insurance Limited, Inc., will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the MPL Association Conference held in Philadelphia on May 14, 2026. Smith is being honored for his years of work in the healthcare industry and his commitment to bringing transparency and trust to the medical professional liability system.

Prior to joining MedStar Health—a 10-hospital healthcare system serving Maryland, Virginia, and the Washington, D.C., region—Smith was the Vice President and Chief Risk Officer for UCSF-Stanford Health Care in San Francisco. He previously served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Tufts Medical Center in Boston. In addition, he is a member of the Massachusetts and California Bars.

Smith has been very active with the MPL Association’s Sections and Committees. He has served as the Chair of the Hospital-Owned Liability Insurance Section since its inception in 2017. Additionally, he has supported the Claims Defense Forum Advisory Committee and the Data Sharing Advisory Committee.
