Mary-Lou Misrahy to Receive MPL Association Lifetime Achievement Award

(Rockville, MD, May 1, 2026)—The Medical Professional Liability Association (MPL Association) today announced that Mary-Lou A. Misrahy, former President and CEO of Physicians Insurance A Mutual Company, will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the MPL Association Conference held in Philadelphia on May 14, 2026. Misrahy is being honored for her years of work in the MPL industry and her leadership and extensive commitment to the MPL Association.

Misrahy enjoyed 38 years in the insurance industry. She started with Liberty Mutual as a multi-line claims adjuster in Los Angeles when she was unable to find work as a biochemist. Three years later she joined Pacific Comp as a claims manager; the company was later acquired by Fremont Compensation Insurance Company. Her rise within the company was rapid, leading to her taking a number of senior positions that culminated in her promotion to senior vice president of marketing, customer service, and loss control, and eventually to president and CEO. Misrahy served as President and CEO of Physicians Insurance from 2004 until her retirement in 2019.

Her long-time engagement and support of the MPL Association included serving on the MPL Association’s Board of Directors for nine years, and two years as Chair of the Board. Misrahy was Chair at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and successfully worked with Association staff on the transition to online meetings and conferences.

In addition to her service on the MPL Association Board, Misrahy chaired the CEO/COO Section, Finance and Audit Committee, and the Rating Agency Relations Committee, as well as serving multiple times on the Nominating and Strategic Planning Committees.

“Mary-Lou embodies a true leader and champion of the MPL Association,” said Eric R. Anderson, President and CEO, MPL Association. “We are thrilled to recognize her with this award and applaud her years of service to the insurance industry and thank her for her many contributions to the Association’s success.”
